Nouns
*There are different types of nouns, « regular» and « irregular «and always plural nouns.
*To regular nouns you add « s « and the word becomes plural. Ex. Girl (sing.) Girls (plural )
*Irregular nouns change their form,such as : A Man – 2 men – a child – 2 children etc.
• And we have the always plural nouns that they are only one pair but you treat them as
plural .
• Ex. Sunglasses-shorts – shoes –scissors-gloves etc.
* We have NOUNS used with the singular and plural forms of the «DEMONSTRATIVE
ADJECTIVES, both of them must be used according to the form, that is to say if you use a
singular noun the Demonstrative Adj. Must be singular if the noun is plural the
Demonstrative Adj must be plural, with the exceptions of the special always plural nouns,
that you treat them as plural all the time.

Demonstrative Adjectives

Demonstrative adjectives are also divided in Singular and Plural forms There are forms to
show if something is near you and far from you.
If the object is near you we use : This is a… if it´s far from you we use: That is a … in the
singular form.Ex. This is a purse – That is a scarf. We have the use of verb to be so for
questions we reverse the position of verb to be.
Question : Is this a notebook? Is that an eraser ?
Affirmative: Yes This is a notebook. Yes, that is an eraser.
Negative : No. This isn´t a notebook. No, that isn´t an eraser.

The forms above are the formal way to answer the questions, you can also answwer them in
an informal way by using it.
Ex. Is this a bag? Yes It´s a bag is that an umbrella? Yes,It´s an umbrella

DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES

In The PLURAL form ,we have: These are …. when the objects are near you and Those are….
When the objects are far from you o the and affirmative and negative answers are:
Questions: Are these your keys? Are those your pens?
Affirmative: Yes, These are my keys. Yes, Those are my pens.
Negative : No, These aren´t my keys. No, Those aren´t my pens.
The forms above are the « formal « way to answer but you can also aswer in an informal way
and that is:
Ex. Are these your keys? Yes, They are. Are those your pens? Yes, They are.
The pronoun « They « refers to the keys and to the pens.
