RECTANGULAR FOOTING

Problem:
A rectangular footing is supporting the 450 mm square column which carries a dead
load of 1140 kN and a live load of 860 kN. A rectangular footing is required to carry
the column loads such that the length of the long side must be equal to twice the
width of the short side. Assume the base of footing is 1.65 m below the ground
surface. Allowable bearing pressure of soil is 212 kPa. f’c = 24.1 MPa, fy = 415 MPa,
weight of soil is 16.2 kN/m3 and that of concrete is 23.5 kN/m 3. Use concrete cover
75 mm.
