CORE STANDARDS FOR IDAHO

TEACHERS CERTIFICATION AND


THE DANIELSON FRAMEWORK FOR
TEACHING

standards are.

an understanding of each of the ten
standards.
3. Know the Danielson framework for teaching.
4. Know the for domains of the framework.
5. Understand components of each domain.
WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS FOR
IDAHO TEACHERS CERTIFICATION?
1. They are ten standards that every teacher in Idaho
must learn.
2. All teachers must obtain an “acceptable” level or
above in the Core standards as well to the
standards specific to their discipline.
3. This has to be completed prior to a teacher getting
their certification.
4. The standards are divided into four categories. The
learner and learning, content, instructional practice,
and professional responsibility.
STANDARD #1
Learner Development: The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that
patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic,
social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and
challenging learning experiences.

1. The teacher understands how learning happens. They understand how


students construct knowledge and use appropriate tools to develop student
learning.
2. The teacher understands all areas of the learners development. They make
decisions to build on the learners strengths.
3. The teacher recognizes when the student is ready to learn and knows the
relationship in areas of development.
4. The teacher understands the role that language and culture play in learning.
Teacher makes learning accessible to all.
STANDARD #2
Learning Differences: The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and
diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable
each learner to meet high standards.

1. The teacher understands different approaches and plays to the


learners strengths.
2. The teacher understands students with exceptional needs and
disabilities. They utilize resources to fit these students needs.
3. The teacher uses resources to support language acquisition.
4. The teacher understands that all students bring assets based on
their individuality.
5. The teacher knows how to access information on diverse
cultures.
STANDARD #3
Learning Environments: The teacher works with others to create environments that
support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social
interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

1. Teacher understand how to build self direction and ownership of


learning.
2. The teacher knows how to help students to work together to
achieve learning goals.
3. The teacher knows how to monitor and work with students to
create a safe and productive learning environment.
4. The teacher knows how to communicate in diverse
environments.
5. The teacher knows how to use technology safely and effectively.
STANDARD #4
Content Knowledge: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and
structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make
the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

1. The teacher has a firm understanding of the


discipline they teach.
2. The teacher knows common misconceptions of their
discipline.
3. The teacher knows the language of their discipline
and can make it available to students.
4. The teacher has a deep knowledge of student
standards and learning progressions in their
discipline.

Application of Content: The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use
differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative
problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.

1. The teacher understands ways of knowing in her discipline. They


understand how it relates to other disciplines.
2. The teacher understands how their discipline relates to current
interdisciplinary themes. They know how to connect them to
their own discipline.
3. The teacher understands accessing information and how to
evaluate issues of ethics and quality.
4. The teacher understands how to use digital and interactional
technologies to achieve learning goals.

5. The teacher understand critical thinking and can


help learners develop their questioning skills to
develop independent learning.
6. The teacher uses communication modes to develop
learning.
7. The teacher encourages students to use creative
thinking to create original work.
8. The teacher knows how to integrate global
awareness to encourage learning.
STANDARD #6
Assessment: The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage
learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and
learner’s decision making.

1. The teacher knows the difference between formative and


summative applications of assessment and knows how to use
them both.
2. The teacher understands different types and purposes of
assessments and how to apply them to achieve specific learning
goals.
3. The teacher knows how to read assessment data and use it to give
feedback to students.
4. The teacher can engage learners to read their own assessments to
set their own goals for learning.

5. Theteacher understand the importance of


effective feedback and can deliver it to the
student.
6. Notonly can the teacher compare students
progress to standards. But they know how
and when to do it.
7. Theteacher will know how to prepare
students for testing especially for students
with disabilities.
STANDARD #7
Planning for Instruction: The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in
meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum,
cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the
community context.

1. The teacher understands content and content standards and how


they are organized in the curriculum.
2. The teacher integrates cross-disciplinary skills to engage students
to apply content knowledge.
3. The teacher understands learning theory and individual
differences and how the impact ongoing learning.
4. The teacher understands strengths and needs of learners and how
to use them to help students succeed.

5.The teacher knows a range strategies, resources,


and technological tools. They use them to plan
instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
6. Using assessment information and learner
responses the teacher can adjust plans to
accommodate the learner.
7. The teacher knows how to collaborate with other
professionals and use resources.
STANDARD #8
Instructional Strategies: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies
to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections,
and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

1. For various kinds of learning the teacher understands the cognitive


process and how these can be simulated.
2. The teacher knows how to provide appropriate strategies to achieve
goals.
3.The teacher knows how to differentiate instruction to accommodate
all learners.
4. The teacher understands the importance of multiple forms of
communication.
5. The teacher knows how to use human and technological resources to
achieve goals.
6. The teacher knows how to support content and skill development
with media and technology effectively.
STANDARD #9
Professional Learning and Ethical Practice: The teacher engages in ongoing professional
learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects
of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the
community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

1. The teacher uses self assessment and problem solving strategies


to reflect and work on adjustments.
2. The teacher uses learner data to differentiate instruction
accordingly.
3. The teacher understands that a students past can form their
perception
4. The teacher understands and abides by laws related to students
rights and reporting suspected abuse.
5. Teacher builds a plan for professional development by using
teacher reviews and evaluations.
STANDARD #10
Leadership and Collaboration: The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and
opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners,
families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure
learner growth, and to advance the profession.

1. The teacher understands that the school is an organization with


unique views and can work with others in the system to support
learners.
2. The teacher uses family, school and community to support
learners.
3. The teacher has skills in collaborative interaction and can work
well with adults in many platforms.
4. The teacher can contribute to a culture that promotes education
and learning.
WHAT IS THE DANIELSON
FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING?

The Danielson framework for teaching is 22


components of instruction that align with the
Idaho teachers core standards. These
components are separated in to for domains.
DOMAIN #1 PLANNING AND
PREPARATION

1. Demonstrating knowledge of content and


pedagogy.
2. Demonstrating knowledge of students.
3. Setting instructional outcomes.
4. Demonstrating knowledge of resources.
5. Designing coherent instruction.
6. Designing student assessments.
DOMAIN #2 THE CLASSROOM
ENVIRONMENT

1. Creating an environment of respect and


rapport.
2. Establishing a culture for learning.
3. Managing classroom procedures.
4. Managing student behavior.
5. Organizing physical space
DOMAIN #3 INSTRUCTION

1. Communicating with students.


2. Usingquestioning and discussion
techniques.
3. Engaging students in learning.
4. Using assessment in instruction.

CONCLUSION

The Idaho teacher core standards and the


Danielson framework for teaching are not only
valuable but necessary for a teacher to be
successful. These tools benefit both student
growth and teacher development. These are
the tools that administrators will use to
evaluate teachers. For these reasons it is
important that a teacher has a firm
understanding of all aspects.
