Claire is a

quadriplegic
• Claire has many challenges in the classroom.
She can not write, take notes, type, or use
many classroom technologies. Without use of
her hands or legs she is very limited in what
she can do in the general classroom. Thankfully
there are many technologies that can help
Claire succeed and show her true abilities.
Tecla Shield
The Tecla Shield provides access to iPads, iPhones, and
many Android technologies. Students can use them by
pushing buttons with their head and shoulders. They
can also control it by blowing into a straw or blinking.
With this technology the student can independently
read eBooks, watch videos, navigate the web, and even
control smart phones.
Switch Control
Switch control makes it possible for students
to use Apple devices that contain the iOS
setting. The touchscreen can become a
switch as the front facing camera detects
head movements. This is highly adaptable for
students with little to no movement.
Student Based
Apps
Notes Plus- This allow students to be able to
take notes hands free. This will help the
student to be independent and take notes
with out the help of a assistant. I also feel it
will help the student feel less self conscious
when taking notes in class.
Tim has Cerebral
Palsy
Tim has limited hand and arm use. This creates
many obstacles for Tim. He lacks fine motor
skills so using a pen and pencil is a big
challenge for Tim. He struggles to take notes,
draw pictures, and write for other assignments.
Thankfully there are technologies that can help
Tim show his true potential.
Student Based
Apps
Notability- This allows a student to copy and
paste images from the internet. This allows
the to incorporate images into their notes
and assignments.
Six Digit
Six digit is like a ring the student will wear on
their pinky. It has a bar that extends down to a
rubber base. This not only helps the student
type on a keyboard but it also helps them use a
touch screen. This will give the student access
to most technologies that can be used in the
classroom.
Switch Control
Switch control makes it possible for students
to use Apple devices that contain the iOS

switch as the front facing camera detects

students with little to no movement. I used
this for Claire but this device would be a
huge benefit to Tim as well.
Arthur is visually
impaired
Arthur is visually impaired and will have many
struggles in the classroom. He can not see
further than 12 inches. This will make seeing
the white board impossible. Taking notes and
reading will also be a struggle. Thankfully there
are technologies that will help Arthur succeed.
Auditory Based Technologies
A good technology that is simple and cheap
is to record lessons for Arthur to review
later. This will make it so Arthur does not
need to take notes and he can review to
answer questions he might have from the
lesson.
Auditory Based technologies
A talking calculator. More and more students
are using calculators in the classroom. This
would help Arthur to be more independent
by being able to use his own calculator and
still know that his inputs are correct.
Auditory Based Technologies
There are other good technologies for
Arthur. Jaws is a technology that can convert
text to braille. This will help Arthur read
anything that is handed out in class. If
Arthur can not read braille Kurzweil 1000
can convert text on a computer or scanned
pages to voice. This would give him complete
independence on anything that needs to be
