PROJECT-OVERVIEW

 To presents an experimental study of effective use of crumb rubber in concrete by volume

variation of crumb rubber.

 The project is aimed to study the effectiveness of rubber as substitute for fine aggregate.

 To determine the strength properties of concrete specimens with various percentage of crumb rubber as
substitute.
WHAT IS CRUMB RUBBER?

 Crumb rubber is recycled rubber produced from automobile tires.

 Crumb rubber is obtained by Shredding of waste tyres and removing

steel debris.

 Crumb rubber is made up of 71% recoverable rubber, 14% steel,

3%fibers and 12% extraneous material.

 Particle ranging in size from 4.75mm to less than 0.0075 mm.

OBJECTIVE OF CRUMB RUBBER

 To reduce dead load of the structural element.

 To increase the strength to weight ratio.

 To reuse the waste tire and reduce global warming.

 The use of recycled rubber in replacement and addition with the concrete can result in
reduce cost and may enhance performance.
.
MATERIAL USED :-

 The basic ingredients of Crumb rubber concrete and its products,

which were used in this project work are:
1- OPC-43 grade
2- Natural Coarse aggregate.
3- Natural Fine aggregate (sand).
4- Water
5- Fine crumb rubber (sieve size <4.75mm)
Design mix of concrete
AS PER IS 10262 : 2009
IS 456 : 2000

Specific gravity of cement = 2.93

Specific gravity of coarse aggregate = 2.82
Specific gravity of fine aggregate = 2.65
Water absorption of coarse aggregate = 0.86%
Water absorption of fine aggregate = 1.25%
For 1 m3:-
CEMENT = 554.4 Kg/m3
SAND = 558.25 Kg/m
COARGE AGGREGATE = 1155 Kg/m3
W/C RATI0 = 0.45
M25 1:1:2
FOR 150*150*150 MM:-
CEMENT= 1.87 Kg
SAND = 1.88 Kg
AGGREGATE = 3.89 Kg
MIX DESIGN OF M25

 Cement Used: OPC-43

 Water Cement Ratio: 0.45
 Contents for 6 cubes (150x150x150mm)
1. Cement=11.22kg
2. Water=5.09kg
3. Sand=11.28kg
4. Coarse Aggregate(20mm)=22.44kg
TESTING ON CONCRETE

 Slump cone test:-

• The concrete slump test measures the consistency of

fresh concrete before it sets.

• It is performed to check the workability of freshly made

concrete, and therefore the ease with which concrete
flows.

• It can also be used as an indicator of an improperly

mixed batch.
SLUMP CONE
TEST
Procedure of slump cone test:-

 Initially we clean the internal of the mould and apply oil.

 Now, fill rise the mould the mould with the prepared concrete mix in four approx.. Equal layer with 25
strokes to each layer .
 Remove the excess concrete and level the surface with trowel.
 Rise the mould from the concrete immediately and slowly in vertical direction
 Measure the slump as the diff. between the height of the mould and that of height point of the specimen
being tested.
 RESULT:-
 16.0cms
CASTING OF SPECIMEN :-

 Fixing of mould
 Oiling of mould
 Material mix manually (water,cement,aggregate)
 placing in mould’s
 temping of mould by rod
 Removing moulds placing concrete for curing.
CASTING OF SPECIMEN
Compressive strength test:-

 The compressive strength of concrete is given in terms of the

characteristic compressive strength of 150 mm size cubes tested
at 28 days (Fck).

 The characteristic strength is defined as the strength of the

concrete below which not more than 5% of the test results are
results are expected to fail.
COMPRESSIVE
STRENGTH TEST:-
Procedure of compressive strength
test:-

 Compressive strength test were carried out on 150 mm x 150 mm x150 mm

cubes with compression testing machine of 2000KN capacity.
 The specimen, after removal from curing tank was cleaned and dried.
 The specimen was placed at the Centre of the compression testing machine
and load was applied continuously, uniformly and without shocks and the rate
of loading was 5.1 KN/Sec i.e. at constant rate of stress.
 The load was increased until the specimen failed. The maximum load taken
by each specimen during the test was recorded.
COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TEST

Strength at 28 Strength at 56
Strength at 7days days days
