The majority of Colombians do not have a


healthy lifestyle, their habits predispose
them to cardiovascular diseases, which are
the second cause of death in Colombia, after
violence.
RESEARCH

• The III National Study of Risk Factors


for Chronic Diseases (Enfrec), which
has just been presented by the
Ministry of Health, analyzed the
knowledge, attitudes and practices
of the Colombian population
associated with cardiovascular and
cerebral vascular diseases.
The figures speak for themselves: 12.3 percent are
hypertensive; 52.7 percent acknowledge that they never
exercise; 2.0 percent suffer from diabetes mellitus. And only
34.8 percent of adults in Colombia have had a cholesterol test.

• The study included 6,336 people aged 12 to 69 years,


residing in different regions of the country.
