FIRE RESISTANT MATERIALS :

GYPSUM :

◦Gypsum board is an excellent fire-resistive building

material.
◦Massive gypsum blocks have a high level of passive
fire protection: 60 mm thickness offers 30 minutes of
fire resistance
DURABILITY :
◦Gypsum board is used to construct strong, high
quality walls and ceilings that offer excellent
dimensional stability and durability
ECONOMY:
•Gypsum board is readily available and easy to apply.
•It is an inexpensive wall surfacing material that
provides a fire resistan interior finish
PERLITE BOARDS
• Perlite is not a trade name but a
generic term for naturally occurring
silicous rock.
• Perlite is also a fibrous insulation
board that contains both inorganic
and organic materials.
• Perlite also changes dimensions
when it becomes wet.
• It has excellent fire resistance
capabilities and is manufactured in
sizes similar to fiberboard.
VERMICULITE BOARDS
• Vermiculite boards provide fire
resistance, insulation and
thermal stability. Ideal for wood
burning stoves, are easy to cut
and are available in a number of
thicknesses and densities
• Boards are also available with
decorative surfaces including
brick effect, herringbone and
reeded patterns making them
ideal insulation panels for
inglenooks.
ASBESTOS

• Board used in the building trade because of

its excellent fire resistance and heat
insulating properties
• Asbestos fireproofing spray when it is first
applied, it is a wet, foam-like material. As it
dries out, it becomes friable.
• Asbestos was seen as an inexpensive additive
that could be used to create a range of
inexpensive, fire-resistant products, including
materials such as roofing shingles, wallboard
and concrete
• Asbestos works well as a fire-resistant
material because of its chemical properties. It
is non-flammable and non-combustible and
has a melting point of around 1600 degrees
