COMPONENTS OF AN

ECOSYSTEM
BIOSPHERE
 Iswhere all living things, including us,
interact.
 Did you know that the biosphere is only 21
kilometers thick?
 Within this thickness, we are able to have
access to a layer of air, soil, and the waters
of the oceans, rivers, and seas.
ECOLOGY
Is the science that deals with
the relationships of living things
with each other and with the
environment within the
biosphere.
ECOSYSTEM
 Eco – refers to the environment
 System – indicates organized units
 The interdependent living and nonliving
components enclosed within a definite
boundary.
 Isthe result of the interaction between
biotic community and the abiotic
components.
BIOTIC COMPONENTS
Refers to the
living organisms in
the environment.
ABIOTIC COMPONENTS
Refers to the non-
living component of
the environment.
POPULATION
Organisms that belong
to the same species
and live in the same
place.
COMMUNITY
Populations that live
in the same place
and interact with
each other.
ECOLOGICAL
RELATIONSHIPS
MUTUALISM
Interactionsbetween
organisms in which
both organisms are
benefitted.
COMMENSALISM
Relationship in which one
organism benefits from the host
organism, while the host
organism is neither positively
nor negatively affected.
PARASITISM
Relationship in which the
parasite gets benefitted
while the host organism is
affected or harmed.
PREDATION
Iswhat happens when an
organism directly eats another
organism.
Predator-the one that eats.
Prey-one being eaten.
COMPETITION
Takes place when two or
more organisms of either the
same or different species
fight for the basic needs in
their habitats.
