FORMS OF ADJECTIVES

POSITIVE, COMPARATIVE AND


SUPERLATIVE

SET 1
Raymond is tall.
Nestor is taller.
Father is the tallest of the three.
SET 2
The cat is big.
The dog is bigger than the cat.
The cow is the biggest of the three.
SET 3
The pencil is long.
The ruler is longer.
The stick is the longest of the three.
POSITIVE DEGREE
 When we describe only one thing and the adjective is in its simple form.

Example:

Raymond is tall.
The cat is big.
The pencil is long.
COMPARATIVE DEGREE
 When we compare two things, we add-er to the simple form of the adjective.

Example:

Nestor is taller.
The dog is bigger than the cat.
The ruler is longer.
SUPERLATIVE DEGREE
 When we compare three or more things, we add -est to the simple form of the
adjective. We also use the before the adjective.

Example:
Father is the tallest of the three.
The cow is the biggest of the three.
The stick is the longest of the three.
