Introduction
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how
we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and
make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and
adolescence through adulthood.

Mental health refers to cognitive, behavioural, and emotional well-being. It is all about
how people think, feel, and behave. People sometimes use the term “mental health”
to mean the absence of a mental disorder

Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own
abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able
to make a contribution to his or her community.

My View ( Malaysian Context )

In Malaysia, a growing number is suffering from mental health problems

(from statistics shown in Slide 7, 29.2% or 3 in 10 adults are affected).

However, getting the appropriate help is usually slow, and hampered by

social stigma associated with mental health. E.g. the patients are labelled
as mad, crazy or possessed by evil spirits.

To effectively address mental health issues, everyone in the society has to

play a part: Be a kind advocate, and encourage our friends as well as
family members to seek the right assistance.
