Cultural Changes
Taboo Earlier Awareness Now

• Earlier women, generally, stayed back to take care of the household.

• Even those who worked in then industries generally played the role of the second fiddle.
• With the advent of the 21st century and uprising of the concepts such as equality and
gender rights, more and more women are encouraged to go out and work.
• So its now high time to make work places more inclusive of women and their needs.
• Keeping the above in mind we strongly believe that women should be granted menstrual
leave.
Changes in workforce planning
• Granting menstrual leave changes the dynamics of the work place.
• There could be problems with regard to the meeting of deadlines or completion of
a task.
• Either the task can be allocated to some other employee or the concerned lady
may choose to work later if the deadline permits.
• Work from home is always an option.
• This initiative will ensure that women can take a day (or two) off and comeback
with a fresh mind to contribute to better productivity
Behavioural Aspects
Women are biologically different

• Mensuration is not a luxury! Women pass through a period of extreme discomfort

of which men have no idea.
• So we don’t think men should have any problem with women taking a leave during
menstruation.
• But there’s a downside to this initiative. Women may even take advantage of this
situation and misuse the leave granted to them.
• Some men may not necessarily approve of this initiative which may lead to an
unpleasant work environment.
Financial Implications
• There will be financial implications while implementing this change. E.g. change in
workforce allocation, unable to meet the deadline, etc.
• Changes may be made to the teams in terms of work allocation, some other
employee would have to cover up.
• Unavailability of extra resources may lead to failure in meeting the deadlines.
• However, the managers or the leaders should plan the tasks allocation properly so
that if a female employee is on leave it has minimum effect on the productivity of
the team.
• This initiative may lead to increase in costs but this will definitely lead to women
having a better frame of mind, which will lead to better productivity.
Developing high performance work-environment

• Consideration and fulfilment of women’s need will definitely lead to better job
satisfaction.
• This would create a sense of inclusiveness among women.
• It will lead to enhanced productivity.
