 What is the philosophy of
the Rassias Method
as it applies to the program and the classroom
Know Thyself
The Rassias Method asks teachers/students to explore
their own inhibitions, prejudices, values.
Classes aim at eliminating natural self – consciousness
and fear of making mistakes.
Connect
The Method increases awareness of others and how to
relate to them in various contexts. Students discover
how to act, speak, learn in the context of another
Culture.
Special Delivery
Teachers create and maintain a dynamic classroom
pace and atmosphere. While this section mainly
addresses drill, it is also key in stressing the importance
of weaving together Master Class and drill. The Rassias
drill system focuses on repetition and manipulation
and fosters spontaneity and creative use of the
language studied even in the earliest weeks of class.
Stage Presence
Teachers use Rassias techniques for exploiting the
content of the moment and helping the student
perform as the star of the show. This thought is the
most important underpinning to the philosophy. If the
students of even other members of the team feel
threatened in anyway, true learning / team work will
be impeded. The students must feel at ease within
themselves in order to reach comfort in speaking in
class or in country.
Senses and Emotions
The Rassias Method calls for teachers and students to
engage their emotions and all of their senses to their
fullest capacity. (For instance, teachers ask students
not only to look but to see fully what is happening in
the classroom… What is happening between the
people in a dialogue? What are the people feeling?
What are the cultural cues? How does the action make
you feel? In addition, how do things smell, look, sound,
feel, taste?)

El método Rassias pide a maestros y estudiantes
explorar sus propias inhibiciones, prejuicios, valores.
Las clases tienen como objetivo eliminar naturalmente
la conciencia y el miedo de cometer errores.
Conectar
El método aumenta la conciencia de los demás y cómo
relacionarse con ellos en diversos contextos. Los
estudiantes descubren cómo actuar, hablar, aprender
en el contexto de otra cultura.
Entrega especial
Los maestros crean y mantienen una atmósfera y ritmo
dinámico en el aula. Aunque esta sección trata
principalmente de perfeccionamiento, también es clave
en subrayar la importancia de tejer juntos la Clase
maestra y perfeccionar. El sistema “drill” Rassias se
centra en la repetición y la manipulación y fomenta la
espontaneidad y el uso creativo de la lengua estudiada,
incluso en las primeras semanas de clase.
Presencia en el escenario
Los maestros utilizan técnicas Rassias para explotar el
contenido del momento y ayudar al estudiante
realizarse como la estrella del espectáculo. Este
pensamiento es la base más importante para la
filosofía. Si los estudiantes, incluso de otros miembros
del equipo se sienten amenazados en cualquier caso,
se impedirá verdadera obra de aprendizaje/equipo. Los
estudiantes deben sentirse a gusto dentro de sí mismos
con el fin de llegar a la comodidad al hablar en clase o
en el país.

participar de sus emociones y todos sus sentidos al
máximo de su capacidad. (Por ejemplo, los profesores
piden a los estudiantes no sólo mirar sino ver
completamente lo que está sucediendo en el aula ...

¿Cuáles son las personas que sienten? ¿Cuáles son las
claves culturales? ¿De qué manera la acción te hace
sentir? Además, ¿cómo huelen las cosas, mira, sonido,
tacto, gusto?)

1960s and formalized by use in the Peace
Corps.
•It is a combination of drama and pedagogy.
