This document describes the crystallization sequence of minerals in magma as it cools. K-feldspar crystallizes first as free crystals in the melt at low crystallinity. Plagioclase then develops as the aluminosilicate framework forms and minor minerals concentrate in the residual melt between major minerals. Pyroxenes, olivine, and other minerals then develop strong intergrowths at the solidus point where crystallization is complete.
