Site selection for thermal power plant
• A few important factors to be considered for
the selection of site for thermal plants are
listed below

• Availability of Coal
• Ash Disposal Facility
• Space Requirements
• Nature of Land
• Availability of Water
• Transport Facilities
• Availability of a Labour
• Public Problems
• Size of the Plant
thermal power plant

•“A thermal power plant is a power plant in

which the prime mover is stream. Water is
heated, turns into steam and spins a turbine
which drives an electrical generator. After it
passes through the turbine, the steam is
condensed in a condenser and recycled to
where it was heated, this is known as a
Rankine cycle
STEAM GENERATION PRINCIPLE

 Steam power plants operate on

Modified Rankine Cycle, DM water
as working fluid.

 Sensible heat is added in Heaters HPH+Eco IPT
+ economiser
T BFP
 Steam generation takes place in LPT
waterwall. LPH

 Heat transfer in furnace and CEP

condenser
enclosed superheater takes place
thru radiation.
