-These animals are single celled and microscopic.

-Canal system is present.
-These animals live in sea but sometimes in fresh water.
-Reproduction takes place by budding, sexual and asexual.

-All animals of this phylum are aquatic, mostly marine.
-Anus is absent, mouth is surrounded by tentacles.
-Reproduction is sexual or asexual.
-Body is radially symmetrical.
-Examples: hydra, jelly fish etc
Platyhelminthes
-These animals are free living, found in water, damp soil or as a parasite.
-The body is soft, flat and unsegmented.
-They have only one opening i.e. mouth but no anus.
-Flatworm such as tapeworm are found in human intestine.
-Examples: liver fluke, tapeworm etc
Nemathelminthes
-These animals are free living, found in water and damp soil.
-Body wall is thick.
-They have both mouth and anus.
-Male and female animals are separate.
-Examples: ascaris, round worm etc
Annelida
-These animals are found in water, moist soil or may be parasite.
-Body is long slender and segmented.
-Alimentary canal is straight.
-Respiration takes place through skin or through gills.
-Examples: Earthworm, neris, leech etc
Arthropoda
-This is largest groups of animals.
-All animals have jointed legs.
-Body is divided into head, thorax and abdomen.
-Respiration takes place by body surface, gills, trachea or booklung.
-Examples: prawn, carb, housefly etc
Mollusca
-Most of the animals are marine, some are found in fresh water or in damp soil.
-The body is soft with a protective shell.
-Sense organs are well developed.
-Digestive system is well developed.
-Examples: snail, octopus, cuttle fish etc
Echinodermata
-These animals are marine.
-They have spiny exoskeleton.
-They do not have distinct head or brain.
-Their body is spherical cylindrical or star shaped and unsegmented.
-Examples: starfish, sea urchin, sea cucumber etc
