Explain the role of assessment in the language classroom:

(a) Assessing young learners for learning


1. Provide feedback for the pupils.
- Pupils know their strengths and weaknesses.
- Pupils are provided constructive feedback on how to improve themselves.

2. Boost pupils’ motivation.

- Pupils see their progress and work more harder.

3. Increase pupils’ comfort zone

- Decreasing of level of anxiety generated by concentration on linguistic accuracy.


4. Make learning visible

- Help young learners understand more accurately the nature of material they are
learning
- Help young learners identify the criteria of quality work and how to adjust their
performance.

5. Encourage self-reflection

- Feedbacks from the assessment can help young learners to reflect on their learning
and improve themselves.
- Pupils are able to plan their future study activity to improve on their weakness.
