Theory of Relativity

AL B ER T E IN ST EI N
Theory of Relativity
Actually exist two theories:
1. “SPECIAL”
2. “GENERAL”
Special Relativity
Two Ideas:
1. The principle of Relativity:
The laws of physics are the same for any inertial reference
2. The principle of the Speed of Light:
The speed light in a vacuum is the same for all observers.
What does “relative” mean?
All motion occurred against a
reference point called “ÆTHER”
ÆTHER: The material that fills
the Universe.

ÆTHER doesn´t exist!

All motion is “relative” velocity
and position of the Observe
(object or person).
EXAMPLE

The train is traveling at 30m/s north.

The ball is hit back and forth at speed of 2m/s north and 2m/s south.
EXAMPLE

Outside

When the ball is hit to north side at speed of 32m/s north (train velocity
plus ball velocity)
When the ball is hit to south, it still appears to travel north, but the
speed is 28m/s (the train velocity minus ball velocity).
EXAMPLE

CONCLUSION:
The ball speed depends on the relative position of the
observer.
