PUBERTY

Puberty is the time in life when a boy or girl

becomes sexually mature. It is a process that
usually happens between ages 10 and 14 for

SOME COMMON PERSONAL
HEALTH ISSUES AND CONCERNS
THAT HAPPEN TO MANY TWEENS
OR PRETEENS
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT
- When you start puberty, you are sure to
experience changes in your height and weight.
- The differences in your rate of growth and
development depend on your genes or what you
inherit from your parents.
- Height and weight differences are normal
occurences.
HEARING
-Hearing loss can result from damage to part/s and or nerve
fibers in the inner ear which respond to sound.
-Many recent studies have revealed that many preteens and
teenagers suffer hearing impairment or are on verge of losing
their hearing. This type of hearing loss is called “noise-
induced hearing loss” or NIHL. It is usually caused by
exposure to excessively loud sounds.
- Noise induced hearing loss can result from a one-time
exposure to a very loud sound, blast, or impulse, or from
listening to loud sounds over an extended period. Personal
music players are among the leading causes of NIHL among
teens.
Here are other causes of hearing loss:
1. Impacted cerumen results from the buildup layers of
earwax within the ear canal to the point of blocking the canal
and putting pressure on the eardrum. Cerumen impaction is
often caused by misguided attempts to remove earwax.
2. Swimmer’s ear, also called otitis externa, is an
infection in the outer ear canal often brought about by
water that remains in your ear after swimming.
Scratching or putting cotton swabs or other object in
your ears can damage the thin layer of skin lining your
ear canal thus also causing swimmer’s ear.

middle ear. Long-term problems related to ear
infections..
