WHAT IS AN ADJECTIVE?
 adjectives are used to identify or quantify individual people and unique things,
they are usually positioned before the noun or pronoun that they modify.

ADJECTIVE ORDER?
 YES! Different from English, adjectives must be written in a specific order!
 When you have two nouns together, the first noun becomes the adjective of the
next one.

ADJECTIVE PHRASE?
 YES! Adjective phrases are parts of a sentence which have their own meaning even
if you read/write it apart.
 Adjective phrases structure is made of:
Determiner (article/number) + adjective(s) + noun (person or object)

Examples:

 A beautiful and tall girl


 Two new red cars
 The old hospital.

 Structure: Person (pronoun)+ Verb to be + complement (adjective to describe


people)

 I am tall / short / beautiful / expressive


 He is outgoing / jealous / chubby
 She is slim / young / old

 Short forms:
 I am = I’m tall
 He is = He’s outgoing
 She is = She’s slim

 We can also write complex sentences using adjective phrases, they can be the subject
of the sentence as well the complement:

 Person (pronoun)+ Verb to be + adjective phrase


 Adjective phrase + Verb to be + complement

Examples:
 She is a beautiful American girl.
 That old black car is behind the house.

Using adjective phrases can help you to give more information in one sentence!
