HYDROLOGIC DATA
1.1 Computing Damsite Coordinates
Use NAMRIA map with scale of 1:50,000
in locating the damsite.
The map coordinates in latitude and
longitude are given in degrees and 5 7º 40’
minutes interval.

Procedure for Latitude/Longitude

1. Measure the distance between the 5
minutes interval along boundary of the
map in centimeters.
2. Measure the distance between the
damsite and the nearest leftmost 5
minutes interval in centimeters. 18.5 15.5
3. Get the ratio and multiply by 5, the cm cm
whole number is the number of
minutes to be added to the nearest
leftmost 5 minutes interval.
4. The remaining fraction after deducting 7º 35’
the whole number is multiplied by 60
to get the seconds in the coordinate.
Min=5*(15.5/18.5)=4.18 > 4’
Sec = 0.18 x 60 = 10.8”
1.2 Delineation of Drainage Area
The drainage area can be delineated by drawing a line along the
mountain ridges and top of foothills dividing the watershed from the
other catchments.

Procedure:
1. To facilitate the delineation process, study the
configuration of the terrain and identify the
river courses, mountain peaks. Look closely
at the contours on the side of the hills sloping
up to the highest points and down to the
rivers and valleys.
 The folding of the contours along the
ridgeline will be pointed towards the
direction of river or waterway
 On either side of the ridgelines are the
valley/waterway and the folding of the
contours is pointing away and the
waterway is the equivalent of the
ridgeline.
1.2 DELINEATION OF DRAINAGE
AREA
Procedure:
2. Mark-out the mountain peaks. Trace
all waterways up to headwaters
including those in nearby watersheds
3. Start drawing the dividing line of the
drainage area, begin either on the left
side or right side of the damsite.
4. Draw the line towards the nearest
highest point in the contour while
making sure that area on the side of the
river will drain in the direction of the
river.
5. In connecting two high points, draw the
line crossing the contours going
downhill, passing the lowest parallel
contour lines and then crossing the
contours uphill to the next highest
point. Follow the outer perimeter of the
drainage pattern along the top of the
ridges and peaks.
