S ITUATION OF W ORKERS

 Most workers experience poverty

 There is a decline in public morality
 Greedy employers exploit workers
 Government does not give attention to the poor
Reminds us that:

 Everything starts and ends with God;

everything belongs equally to all
 Different talents exist among persons, but
everyone is equal in dignity
 Man is a gifted with reason
 Common good should be everyone’s goal;
everyone has a right to social participation
As members of the Church:

 The Church has the right to speak since

social matters affect religion and morality
 Gospel principles help reconcile and
unify classes
 The Church can educate people to act justly
Who are the Workers?
• Each person who exerts this human power
can be considered a worker. He or she
contributes to the development of the
world.
• “ the Church teaches the value of work not
only because it is always something that
belongs to the person but also because of
its nature as something necessary” (CSDC,
287)
Mater et Magistra
 Relationship
between workers
and managers
whose relationship
should be re-

on justice and
equity.

Laborem Exercen;
“ On the basis of his work, each person is fully entitled to consider
himself a part-owner of the great workbench where he is working
with everyone else” (LE, 14)
- o misuse men as though they were things in the
pursuit of gain, or to value them solely for their
physical powers – that is truly shameful and
inhuman.
