4 OBJECTIVE
 To design and fabricate a low cost crop cutting machine based
on the need of farmers where it can be are as follows

 To minimize time of harvesting

 To minimize the human effort.

 To provide proper utilization of wastage which is useful for

cattle.

 To reduce the overall harvesting cost.

5 LITERATURE SURVEY
 A K Murthy, Professor from AMCEC (June 2019) has fabricated
a Semi-Automatic Agro Paddy Harvesting Machine
Extracted: To run the harvester machine supplemented by batteries
will reduce the crop cutting rate and reduce the efficiency.
 M.Rajya Lakshmi, SK.Mahaboob basha, R.Sandeep kumar
(March 2019) have designed a new mechanism for power
transmission
Extracted: To alter the design and connection of belt with engine
which produced maximum power transmission.
 Shafiq Nurdin and Ahlan from Islamic University, (June 2018)
had done research on nine attribute in paddy harvester design
Extracted: Depending on the nine attributes, we have designed our
compact harvester machine.
Contd…
6 LITERATURE SURVEY
 Kamalakkannan and S Rajeshkanna (August 2018) developed a
harvester machine working at any condition
Extracted: To be compact in size and to overcome the drawbacks
that occurred in traditional and huge machine harvester.
 Karthikeyan M (March 2018) has designed and fabricated an
automatic paddy harvester with combine harvesting
Extracted: Disadvantages like irregular ploughing, high cost
maintenance, high power consumption, increased time consumption,
frequent problems occurring in the cutter etc., have been reduced.
 Mr. G Maruthi Prasad Yadav (August 2017) has fabricated and
performed the testing of an Ultraportable Crop cutter
Extracted: To have proper inclination angle of the pulleys and
connecting gears.
7 LITERATURE GAP
Literature Strengths Deficiencies in
Research
Semi Automatic  Harvesting time is less  Increase in price of
Paddy Harvester  More Grip to the hand Fuel.
 Requirement of
labour and Cost is
more.

New Mechanism  Integrated Developed  No Flexibility in

for Power  Easy to Operate machine operation.
Transmission  Supplementary  Reaper or cutting is
conveyor belt not possible.

Rice Threshing  Flexible operation  Conveyer belt for

Machine  Fuel required is less automation.
 Harvesting time is
more
8 PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED
 Can a small scale harvester be able to satisfy the increasing
prices of labour?

 Machines available for harvesting?

 Machines cost and total amount spent?

 Are these machines feasible for small scale farmers?

 Traditional techniques used for harvesting?

12 COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
 PETROL ENGINE

 Type – Four-stroke Petrol engine

 Max power of 14.5 BHP at 8000 rpm, Torque of 13 N-m

 Operation of pulley and cutting blades

Contd…
13 COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
 CUTTING BLADE

 Two blades having a number of triangular sharp edges.

 One blade is stationary and the other is reciprocating.

 Scissoring motion by sliding of reciprocating blade over
other.

Contd…
14 COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
 THRESHING UNIT

 Dry crops are threshed and moved to the storage tank.

 Small grains get separated from their chaff and straw.

 Operated with the help of belt and conveyer connected to
the engine.

Contd…
15 COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
 BELT DRIVE

 Type – V belt

 Operates on the principle of frictional force.

 Transmission of power from the engine to bevel gear
causes the action of blades and wheels.

Contd…
16 COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
 SCREW CONVEYOR

 Collection of matured crop cut by the blades.

 They are transferred to the collecting unit for further
operation.

22 CALCULATION
Traditional Method Our Harvester
 Total amount paid to the  Cost of fuel for 1-acre land per
labour ranges from 2500 day = 5 litre of fuel x Rs.80 =
to 3000 per day. Rs.400, Labour charge =
 Total amount = Rs.2800 Rs.400 per day.
per acre per day(appx.)  Total amount per acre per day =
Cost of fuel + Labour charge +
Maintenance = Rs.1050(appx.)

Comparison: Reduction cost = Rs.1000 per acre per day(appx.)

Thus the proposed method is more efficient than the traditional
method.
23 TESTING RESULT
S.NO OPERATION OBSERVED READINGS
1. Time of start 10:00 am
2. Actual Field work 15 min
3. Machine operator 1 Member
4. Area of the field 100 m2
5. Effective field capacity 0.055 ha/hr
6. Machine Speed 5m/s
7. Field Efficiency 68.99%
8. Time loss 2 min
9. Time of finish 10:15 am
24 CONCLUSION
 The time efficiency of the proposed machine is less than
the manual and more than machine method.

 The Overall cost required for harvesting is less when

compared to other methods.

 We developed the machine based on the attributes like

simple, compact, efficient for small scale land holders and
overcomes the lack of availability of skilled labors.
25 FUTURE SCOPE
 To develop a secondary attachment where it can be
attached similar to the loader, box blade in tractors.

 The machine can be made lighter by changing its material

selection.
