Varying Displacement Pump

Section 4.3

Section 4.3 Hydrostatics

Hydrostatic Pump

The variable displacement pump

varies power output in relation to
movement of the control lever or
swash angle.
This is because the system power
is directly proportional to flow.

Pump Parts.
1. F & R shifting valve solenoid.
2. High pressure Cut off valve.
3. Speed related valve (DA Valve).
4. Charge pump.
5. Low pressure relief.
6. Servo cylinder.
7. High pressure relief.

Hydrostatic Pump

Flow of Oil.
PA
The pump is fitted with a forward – reverse
shifting solenoid and servo piston.
PB The swash plate angle sets the amount of
discharge oil from the pump. The swash plate
angle is increased or decreased to control the
speed of the motor.
As a result, high-pressure oil flows in a
constant direction into the HST motor.
If the swash plate angle changes to the
opposite direction, the intake and discharge
Neutral: no movement direction of the oil is reversed. Oil flows in the
opposite direction to the HST motor.

PA Neutral, the swash plate angle become zero.

The difference in oil displacement between PA
and PB is equal. The pump does not carry out
PB any suction or discharge.

Hydrostatic Pump

Servo Piston
Levers in Neutral
There is no electrical signal from the
F & R lever, both solenoids are not
energised.
There is no signal pressure so servo
piston doesn’t move and main pump
is in the neutral position.

Hydrostatic Pump

Servo Piston
Operate F & R Lever
This sends an electrical signal to one of
the solenoids. Pushing the solenoid
spool to the Right.
Allowing signal pressure to flow into port
SB1, overcoming spring tension on
opposite side of servo piston.
Pushing servo piston to the Left.
Increasing swash plate angle, pump
begins to discharges oil to the motor in
the correct direction.

Hydrostatic Pump
Charge Pump
The Charge Pump is built into the HST pump and are driven together.
The charge pump supplies oil to the following components:
1. Replenish any oil that’s lost out of the Closed Loop system.
2. Supply oil to the control valve that strokes the servo piston.

Hydrostatic Pump
Low Pressure Relief Valve.
The low pressure relief valve controls the pressure from the charge pump.
This valve is installed in the HST pump housing.

Section 4.3 Hydrostatics

Hydrostatic Pump

High Pressure Relief Valve.

The high pressure relief valve is installed on both
sides of the circuit.
If the oil pressure in the high pressure circuit
between the pump and motor rises higher than the
set pressure. The high pressure relief valve drains
oil into the low pressure circuit.
If the quantity of the oil in the Closed Loop circuit
becomes insufficient the high pressure valve will
draw oil in from the charge pump to prevent
cavitation

Speed Related Valve

(DA Valve)
The speed related valve is
installed in the HST pump
and used to divide the oil
from the Charge pump into
two parts.
One flows through the
throttle valve to the Forward
& Reverse Shift Solenoid.
The other flow to the Low
pressure relief valve.

Hydrostatic Pump

High Pressure Cut Off Valve.

If the oil pressure in the high pressure circuit
between the HST pump and HST motor rises
higher than the set pressure, the high pressure
cut off valve drains the oil from the servo
cylinder circuit back to tank.
This will begin to reduce the pump discharge
until the pressure drops back to a normal
pressure.

Valve.
As pressure in high pressure
circuit (PB) becomes too high the
pressure is able to push against
the spring (3).
Unseating spool (4), and draining
servo pressure back to tank.
Spring is servo piston is able to
push the servo piston towards
the neutral position.
As the pump is reduced in flow
PA the pressure will drop until
spring (3) can close off spool (4).
