Listen to this conversations where people ask about local places. Answer the
questions for each conversation
a) What places do they want to find?
b) What do they want to buy / do?

Listen again. Find out which sentences are true.

Conversation 1

Conversation 2
1.There are lots of good places to eat in the area.

Developing conversations
=Asking for information

When we ask friends for information about places, we often explain why we want to go there. Our
friend can then give suggestions.
Example:

A: I need to buy some shoes for my son. Are there any shoe shops near here?
B:Try Kids Stuff – it’s a clothes shop for kids. They sell nice shoes.

A: Are there any restaurants near here?


B:There aren’t really any places in this are. Try the supermarket on Dixon Road. They have
sandwiches and salads.
Complete the description of two places with the words in the box.
Description 1
We have a house. It’s really nice. We have four __________ and two ________. We have a lovely
living room and a big __________. We also have a small garden, and I have a study because I work
from home.

Description 2
I live in an _________. It has one bedroom, and a very small bathroom with only a shower,
________ and toilet. I have a small kitchen with a ___________ where I eat. I also have a
_________ where I hang my washing. The place is OK for me, but I don’t have any spaces for friends
to stay. I only have two chairs and I don’t have many_________ to keep things in. I usually watch TV
