 Today, companies that use biotechnology carry out research and development in various sectors, from fields
related to life sciences, such as: chemistry, fermentation, health care and agriculture; to the fields of information
technology, electronics and machinery. The results of these development efforts are beginning to show.
Biotechnology is creating numerous business opportunities, and its advancements will soon bring revolutionary
benefits to our lives. [26] The distinguishing characteristics of this industry are the strong relationship between
innovation and competitiveness, the need to collaborate in research and the importance of small companies.
 Infrastructure: Material, personnel, intellectual property and other internal systems that combine to define the
key capabilities of the company. To this must be added collaborations with suppliers that give access to more
Intellectual property rights.
 Product: Understood as the way in which the components of the infrastructure are combined to go to the
market in general or to individual clients.
 Client: In this case, companies are focused on the next organization in the supply chain towards the end
customer. For many biotech companies, the client is in many cases a marketing partner.
 Finance: They support the entire structure and allow maintenance of all operations. For listed companies, their
financial condition can be directly assessed from their annual financial statements. However, for unlisted
companies the only indicators available are the level of venture capital investment or public subsidies awarded.
