Modifier + Participle
A : Who is Ardo?
B : Ardo is the boy wearing blue shirt.

1. Ardo is a boy.
2. He is wearing blue shirt.
Example
1. Lenny is a woman.
2. She is talking to Liz.

Lenny is the woman talking to Liz.


*Lenny is the woman who is talking to Liz.

Example
1. Albert wears blue jacket.
2. Albert is a student.

Albert is the student wearing blue jacket.

Modifier + Preposition
A : Who is Ardo?

B : Ardo is the boy in blue shirt.

1. Ardo is a boy.
2. Ardo is wearing blue shirt.
Preposition
 With  Wira has short black hair.
 Wira is the one with short black hair.
 In  Kevin is wearing red shirt.
 Kevin is the one in red shirt.
 On  Donna and Anita sit on the couch.
 Donna and Anita are the ones on the couch.
 Next to  Melly stands next to me.
 Melly is the woman next to me.
 By  My house is by the river.
 My house the one by the river.
 Under  Your book is under my pillow.
 Your book is the one under my pillow.
 Behind  They stand behind you.
 They are the people behind you.

 Please make 10 sentences ether with
a. Modifiers + Participle, or
b. Modifiers + preposition.

Formula
 1st Clause + who/that + be/verb1 + Object.
 Subject + be/verb1 + Object who/that + be/verb1 +
Object.

 1st Clause + who/that + 2nd Clause.


 1st Clause + who/that + Subject + Verb1/be.

As a Subject
1. I see a cat.
2. It has short black fur.

I meet a cat which has short black fur.


I meet a cat that has short black fur.
 The cat has short black fur.
As an Object
1. I like children.
2. I can talk easily with them.

I like children that I can talk easily with.


I like children who I can talk easily with.
Examples: Subject
 I like guys who aren’t too serious.
 I like guys that aren’t too serious.
 I like guys who have a good sense of humor.
 I like guys that have a good sense of humor.

 I like the guy who wears blue jeans.


 I like the guy that wears blue jeans.
 I like that guy.
 That guy wears blue jeans.

 Note: Notice the different with previous section.


(I like the guy wearing blue jeans.)
(I like the guy in blue jeans.)
Examples: Object
 I’d prefer someone who I have fun with.
 I’d prefer someone that I have fun with.
 I’d prefer someone that I have fun with.

 I have fun with someone.


Exercise:
I don’t want to have a partner.
 I don’t feel comfortable around him.

 He doesn’t have a good sense of humor.

I don’t want to have a partner that I don’t feel


comfortable around.

I don’t want to have a partner who doesn’t have a


good sense of humor.
Example:
 I discuss my problems with friends.
 I feel comfortable around them.
 They listen to me.

I discuss my problems with friends who listen to me.

I discuss my problems with friends that I feel


comfortable around.
Example:
 I like movies.
 The movies have many difficult stuns and fighting.
 I like movies that/which have many difficult stuns and
fighting
