     A separation funnel is used to separate


    liquids with different densities and are
    immiscible ; meaning they are unable to mix. 
    Examples Of Immiscible Liquids

     Oil and Water - A


    solution of oil and water is a great
    example of
    a heterogeneous mixture.
    Method Of Separation
     The tap is opened to allow the liquid with the higher
    density to run into the container below.
     The tap is closed as the liquid interface almost reaches it
    and the first container is replaced with the second one .
     The tap is opened again to allow a very small amount of
    the liquid with the lower density to flow into the
    container.
