Mathematics is one of the most universal fields of study reaching every aspect of education,
business operations and everyday activities. In understanding the basics that is addition,
subtraction, division, and multiplication one can fully comprehend the dynamics that this subject
envelope.
In doing this assessment, I would like to specially thank my Mathematics teachers Mr. Montfort
for all this guidance and assistance during the enterprise of this Mathematics School Based
Assessment. Lastly, I would like to thank God the Almighty Father for his constant guidance and

The students at the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School are continually active on their
phones. It was observed that the students are queued up on the school’s veranda looking for Wi-
Fi and watching videos almost every break and lunch time. This typical action recalled how
much time daily does an individual student spend on social media than in a book, studying.
The researcher is of the belief that students of Form Four Room Four Will Most Likely spend
more time on social media rather than studying at Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School.
In Other to Guide the Research the Following Objectives Has Been Provided:
It is expected that form four students are more likely to spend more time on social media than
they do studying.

Methodology
The student researcher will select twelve (12) students through random selection to attain
information. It was decided to acquire data for presentation and analysis, a data collection sheet
will be utilized. The researcher will distribute data collection to the 12 students to collect
Each day of the week the selected students will be questioned about how much time they
approximately spent on social media and on studying. The researcher will then tally the total
number of hours a day the students spent on studying and social media. The total for each day
will be presented in a table form and different charts and graphs, which will be used to compare
and determine the students’ time management skills. Other calculations will be performed such
The researcher chose to utilize the Observation Method. According to Fuel Cycle Observation
behaviour in a natural situation. Depending on the type of observation research and the goal of
the study, the researcher will have varying levels of participation in the investigation. Even
though the Observation Method is Time consuming and may involve a large amount of inactivity
the researcher still chose to apply it because the Observation techniques are cost effective and

ANALYSIS OF DATA
The results in Fig 1.0 shows that the total time students spend on social media is (354 hours),
almost twice the amount of time spent studying (186 hours), students spent more time on social
media on Tuesdays and Wednesdays than any other day of the week (83 hours), while students
spent more time on studying on Friday than any other day of the week. Students spend on
average (37.2 hours) studying compared to (70 hours) on average on social media (32.8 hours).
The least time spent on studying was on Tuesday (34 hours) while on Friday students spent least
time on social media (57 hours). The data revealed a range of theories for students studying (7

hours), (26 hours) for students on social media (3.77% to 7.04%). The largest difference between
hours spent studying compared to hours spent on social media occurred on Tuesday (49 hours),
Discussion of Findings
The results showed that students spend a lot more time on social media than they do studying. It
was evident that students spent a substantial amount of time on their smart phones with a
significant amount on social media. This could be observed for every day of the week.
This can be for the reason that majority of students use every one of their breaks, lunches, and
free periods to go to social media sites and so on. Only some students will take these breaks to

social media versus Time spent studying.”
The topic was centred on the three objectives which are stated below:
The data presented produced a result that concludes the researchers’ assumption that form four
students are more likely to spend more time on social media than they do studying. Results show
that students devote more time to being on social media than they do studying.
