Introduction

On a sunny day, Mrs. Munroe went to the back side of her

house with a measuring tape to capture the field’s precise
dimensions of available land. She also measured for a 1 meter
foot path. The land had a rectangular shape, so she measured
the length and width as precise as possible. She also
measured the length of the wire. Mrs. Munroe has given the
following requirements for the job:
1st Requirement- She has given me a budget of $10000 TTD to
not exceed as she took a loan from her credit union in order to
start this project.

2nd Requirement- Mrs. Munroe requires her vegetable garden

to have a one metre footpath inside for easy watering and
fertilizing.

3rd Requirement- Mrs. Munroe wants this project to be

completed within 1 week.

Methods of Data Collection

A site visit was done and measurements of the area to garden
were taken. The total area was measured and the amount of
space needed was determined.

The data collected showed that:

1. The length of the full field is exactly 26.28 meters.
2. The width of the full field is approximately 11.88 meters.
3. The area of the full field is (26.28 x 11.88) = 312.20 m2
4. The foot path that would be implemented into the field is 1.02
meters there we take away this from both
The full length and full width, giving us the 1 meter footpath and
the final garden plot (26.28 - 1.02 x 2) and
(11.88 – 1.02 x 2) = Length is 24.23 meters and the width is
9.83 meters.
5. The length of the wire is 77 meters

1 metre footpath

Vegetable Garden

The Diagram above is a model of the field the land/field to be

fenced with 76 meters of wire; it also shows the plot and the 1
meter footpath.
-Let the length of the plot of the land to be fenced be Y meters.
-Let the width of the plot of the land to be fenced be X meters.
-Length of the wire to enclose the plot is 76 meters.
 2x + 2y = 76
 (2 x 11.88) + (2 x 26.28) = 76

Once again since there is a 1 meter foot path; the

-Width of the garden = (x – 2) meters
-Length of the garden = (y – 2) meters

-Width = (11.88 – 2) = 9.83 meters

-Length = (26.28 – 2) = 24.23 meters

-Area of the full field

 26.28 x 11.88 = 312 m2
-Area of field after including foot path
 9.83 x 24.23 = 238 m2

Conclusion
After completing the project, the area of the vegetable
garden was found and calculated with and without the
footpath.
