CARDIO VASCULAR
ConsistsSYSTEM
of two pumps (the right
and the left side of the heart) and
complex arrangement of vessels
that transport blood through
nearly every part of the body.

 The purpose PUMP
of any pump is to create
pressure in a fluid, usually by
exerting a force directly on the fluid.
 The heart in higher animals, including
humans, consists of two pumps and
two reservoirs preceding those
pumps.
 RIGHT SIDE OF
 Pumps HEART
THEblood through the lungs to the
left side of the heart.
 LEFT SIDE OF THE
HEART
 Pumps blood through the rest of the
circulatory system, returning it to the
right side of the heart.
 ATRI

 Reservoirs for the ventricles, which
are the main pumps. (It pumps blood
into the ventricles.)

 HEART
VALVES
 Are opened or closed by pressure
differences across them.
 The VALVES between the atria and
ventricles are aided in opening by
cords attached to the interior of the
ventricles.

 BLO
 IsOD
nearly incompressible.
 When ventricles pump blood out of the
heart, the aorta balloons to take up the
extra blood.
