OUR NATION
MEANING OF A NATION

What is a Nation?
A Nation is a group of people who live in
one territory under a single government
and share the common culture, history,
economy and language.
Example of nations are Tanzania,
Canada, Egypt, etc.
COMPONENTS OF OUR NATION

The following are five components that


make up our nation.
i. Territory
ii. Sovereignty
iii. Government
iv. People
v. Culture
1. TERRITORY

A territory is an area of land that has


boundaries and is under the control of a
government.
Our nation, The United Republic of
Tanzania was formed on 26th April 1964
as the results of two countries,
Tanganyika and Zanzibar united as one
2. SOVEREIGNTY

Sovereignty is the freedom that a


country has to govern itself.
TYPES OF SOVEREIGNTY
There are two types of sovereignty, these
are;-
i. Internal sovereignty
ii. External sovereignty
2. SOVEREIGNTY…

A) INTERNAL SOVEREIGNTY
This is the type of sovereignty
whereby a country has a power to
supervise all its internal affairs.
Tanganyika became a sovereignty
state on 9th December 1961 and
Zanzibar on 10th December 1963.
2. SOVEREIGNTY…

B) EXTERNAL SOVEREIGNTY
This is the type of sovereignty
whereby by a country has the freedom
to form its foreign policies.
3. GOVERNMENT

Government is an elected group of


people who are responsible for
controlling a country or state.
In Tanzania we use the Republic
system of government. This type of
government is led by a president.
4. PEOPLE

People refer to the persons who belong


to a particular country.
Tanzania is estimated to have more
than 40 millions population according to
the census of 2010
5. CULTURE

Culture refers to the total way of life.


Culture includes language, art,
customs, beliefs (religion), dressing
style, eating style (food), education and
among others.
