DEFINITION
• Tadika is a Malay abbreviation for Taman
Didikan Kanak-Kanak, in which “Taman” Child Care Act 308
means “garden,” and “Didikan” means An Act to provide for the registration, control and
coaching/upbringing, while “Kanak-Kanak” inspection of child care centres and for purposes connected
therewith.

DEFINITION

• Taska is a Malay phrase that stands for ‘Taman Asuhan Kanak-Kanak’, in


which “Asuhan” means to care. Shorten that and we get the popularly used ‘Taska’,
which directly means a child care center or a nursery.

• Taska offers childcare facilities to look and care for children aged 12 months to 4
years while their parents are busy at work.

1.2 PLANNING THE ESTABLISHMENT
OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Principles of Early Childhood Education

• The Ministry of Education of Malaysia has succeeded in completing a National Pre-

LOCATION SELECTION
• The Town and Country Department states that the
location must be suitable and safe
• Not hilly, steep areas, risk of erosion, landslides or
floods or close to high tension wires and industries.
• If the kindergarten is located in commercial building, it
has to be on the ground floor or first floor.
• In flats, condominiums or service apartments in the
kindergarten has to be on the ground
• Kindergartens in these buildings have to allocate space
for an indoor playground.
 The Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172) does not allow kindergartens to be
located in residential lots, however, local authorities have given their approval on
condition the kindergarten obtains letters of consent from the current owners of
neighbouring houses within a 20-metre radius.

 If the kindergarten is located in a cul-de-sac (dead-end road), letters of consent have to


be obtained from neighbouring houses within a 200-metre range.

 For terrace houses, only corner lots are allowed.

 However, an intermediate lot next to a corner lot is allowed when both lots are occupied
by the same kindergarten. Premises must have an exit staircase or emergency door.
Premise Selection

• It normally be either 1 FLOOR , 2 OR 3 .
• General size of the premise will be 22’ X 75’ and
bigger if we are lucky.
• Each floor will be able to have a maximum of 4
rooms with some open space.
• Depending on the room design , each class will
range from 14.7m (accommodating 15 children)
down to 3.11m (accommodating 3 children)

A kindergarten set up in a housing area will have to
consider some items below :
- duration of the tenancy agreement
- Size of the house and rooms available
- Neighbourhood and location

All existing rooms in the house will be used as classroom


respectively. Compared to shop lots, kindergarten
operating in a house will have to use the existing rooms as
classroom

• The kindergarten MUST use the National Preschool standard Curriculum or


Kurikulum Standard Prasekolah (KSPK)
• Kids aged 5+ must have at least 4 hours per day, while pupils aged 4+ must have at
least 3 ½ hours per day, of teaching and learning (including meal breaks), 5 days a
week.
• Under the KSPK, the minimum time allocated to languages is as follows :

• Minimum time (in minutes) allocated per week for a preschool class whose
medium of instruction is :

If a preschool class has 5 or more Muslim pupils, these pupils have to


provided with at least 2 hours per week of Islamic Education by a
teacher that has been approved by the local authority. IF the
kindergarten has 5 or more pupils who are non-Muslims, these pupils
have to be provided with at least 2 hours per week of Moral Education.
• The National Preschool Standards-Based Curriculum is developed based on six
learning strands is :
– Communication,
– Spirituality, Attitudes and Values,
– Humanity,
– Personal Competence,
– Physical Development and Aesthetics,
– Science and Technology.
• These six learning strands are the main domains that complement one another and
are integrated with critical, creative and innovative thinking. The integration aims to
develop human capital that appreciates moral values based on religion, knowledge,
competence, creative and critical thinking and innovation as illustrated in Figure 1.
Curriculum for Childcare/TASKA

• In Malaysia, early childhood care and family development is the jurisdictionof the
Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (MWFCD).MWFCD is the
coordinator for national programs on the growth and development of children.
• Through its Department of Social Welfare, MWFCD registers all Childcare centers
(TASKA, an acronym in the local language). TASKA offers care and education for
children in the age group of 0-4 years old.
• National PERMATA Curriculum is a guideline for the early childhood care operators and
educators in Malaysia which covers aspects of education, child care, nutrition, and
health (Bahagian PERMATA, 2013).
• Child care operators and educators must ensure about their roles in enhancing the
children’s potential. To date, however, the National PERMATA Curriculum is only
implemented by government and semi-government nursery.
Types of Childcare Center

• There are various kinds of childcare centers in Malaysia, these centers are generally
named as TASKA. Categories of childcare centers found in Malaysia are as below:
– Government own childcare center (TASKA in community)(since 2006)
– Workplace childcare center
– Institutional childcare center
– Plantation childcare center
– Home based childcare center

Principle and Teachers

Your principal and teachers must be Malaysians

• The principal and teachers must have at least a Sijil


Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
• Diploma in Early Childhood Education, while the principal
must also have at least 3 years teaching experience in a
private educational.
• institution/kindergarten or is a retired teacher or ex-teacher.
• Some of institution/childcare centers needed Bachelor in
Early Childhood Education and experience in teaching and
learning for a be principle or teachers at least.
Conclusion

• The overall in the topic, we will learn about the formal basis of
the institution is a document contained vision, mission,
organizational goals, organizational structure and work plan.

• We will also learn a few topic related how to manage or


setting up and administration in Early Childhood Education at
institution.
