FACTORING PERFECT

SQUARE TRINOMIALS

-A trinomial is a perfect square trinomial if it can be factored into a

binomial multiplied to itself.
HOW TO RECOGNIZE A PERFECT SQUARE
TRINOMIAL

 1. Two of the terms must be perfect squares,x2 and y2

 2. There must be no minus sign before x2 or y2
 3.If you multiply x and y and double the result, you get the third term,
2xy, or its additive inverse, -2xy
Example: 4x2+20x+25
4x2+20x+25 is a perfect square
1.The first term 4x2 is the square of 2x: (2x)2=4x2
The last term is the square of 5:52=25
2.There is no minus sign before 4x2 and 25
3.The middle term 20x is twice the product of 2x and 5.
Factoring perfect square trinomial

Rule:
 x2+2xy+y2 =(x+y)2

 x2-2xy+y2 =(x-y)2
Factor Completely

1.x2+18x+81
a. Write
the trinomial in the form x2+2xy+y2 =(x+y)2
X2+18x+81= x2+2( 9·x)+92=(x+9)2
