1997, established by govt. of India as an independent body to
regulate telecom business in India
 TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal ):
Estd. In 2000 & started hearing the cases from 2001 onwards. : All
the disputes regarding telecommunication market is settled here
 DOT (Dep. Of Telecommunication) : Policy, Licensing and
Coordination matters relating to telegraphs, telephones, wireless,
data, facsimile and telematic services and other like forms of
communications.
 COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) : Estd. In 1995.
Association of all the GSM service providers in India.
 AUSPI (Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India)
: AUSPI is the representative industry body of CDMA service
providers in India.

 At present we are in the era of 2nd generation(2G) mobile service.

 Next era is going to be era of 3rd generation(3G) mobile service

 3G is already launched at the beginning of this year.

 3G is viewed as next major booster driving growth for Indian telecome

 On October 1, 2000 the Department of Telecom Operations,


Government of India became a corporation and was renamed
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

 The state-controlled BSNL operates basic, cellular (GSM and


CDMA) mobile, Internet and long distance services
throughout India (except Delhi and Mumbai).

 MTNL was set up on 1st April 1986 by the


Government of India.

 MTNL has over 5 million subscribers and


329,374 mobile subscribers

Infocomm's initiatives was launched on
December 28, 2002.

and enrolled more than 6 million
