• Functional Area Information Systems (FAIS) provide information mainly to lower and middle level
managers in the functional areas.
• Functional Area Information System helps any business event that generates data worthy of being captured
and stored in a database.
• Each functional area requires applications to perform all information processing related to the function.

• There are majorly three types of reports a business can get through applying Functional Area Information
System.
(1) Routine report
(2) Ad hoc report (On demand report)
 Drill-down report
 Key-indicator report
 Comparative report
(3) Exceptional report

• Aklavya Industries Private Limited is a Private company incorporated on 06 January 1998.

• Growing and developing on the foundations laid by a tightly knit family of 500+ employees for more
than 20 years, Aklavya Industries Private Limited is a leading textile enterprise based in Surat, the textile
hub of India. It is involved in dyeing, printing and finishing of textiles.
• The company majorly deals in finishing of polyester and viscose blend fabrics.
• The company is mainly based on the conversion of weaved grey polyester into dyed or printed polyester
and then into finished apparels.
• Considering the dyeing industry FAIS can be divided into four areas which are:
1) Manufacturing
2) Sales & Marketing
3) Finance Accounting
4) Human Resource Management

 WHY DO AKLAVYA INDUSTRIES PVT LTD NEED FAIS?

• In case of Aklavya Industries Private Limited, when we consider dyeing process, in particular, a
manager has to take quick decisions, or else there’s a chance of the business being taken over by his
competitors.
• Access to data and the capability of data processing can assist in managing greater performance in
accounting and other business processes.
• A business process is a set of activities that uses one or more inputs and creates an output that is of
value to the client.
• Data and information generated from an accounting information system and the reports created
thereon are used to produce reliable, timely and appropriate information required for effective
decision making by managers.
• All the parameters for dyeing like temperature, pressure, water level, water flow, circulation and time of
treatment are most important. By getting the right information at the right time can improve productivity
by controlling the above parameters very accurately.

• An information system is a critical tool for integrating business functions. An information system
includes the:

• Slow computers can kill business productivity. Keeping that in mind, the average business computer may
cost around Rs.50,000 to Rs. 60,000. To drill-down data Information Processing Tools like text
processors, databases, client-server, barcode technology, etc.
• Text processors like Microsoft may cost around Rs.42,000 after getting an official license. 
• If a project report is transferred from one department to another the next department can obtain the report
through the server. Installing a client-server network may cost around Rs.1,40,000.
• Default software is also available to manage information systematically. It costs around Rs.22,000.

• Functional Area Information System is a system that provides information to managers in the
functional area to support managerial tasks of planning, organizing, and controlling operations.
Applying this method may have some benefits and limitations for the company.

• By applying this system in Aklavya Industries Private Limited, it will be easier to process a large number
of data.
• This system will access, organize, summarize, and display information for maintaining regular decision
making in the functional areas of Aklavya Industries Private Limited.
• This system can speed up the progress of problem-solving in industry. It can also facilitate interpersonal
communication continuous improvisation in the organizational information database.
• The installation of FAIS, in general, will keep the decision-maker aware of important information,
aggregated and disaggregated; informs him of programmed decisions made; provides analysis of alter­
natives to assist in decision-making.
 CONCLUSION

• Functional Area Information System is a tool for making a better decision in the organization gives an
impact on the important function of top management.
• It is also used to create the report with the help of advanced technology having the highest, characteristics
of good data by which the decision are to be taken related to the functionality of management decision.
• Nowadays, information technology and information system have become an essential substance of any
successful company and is considered as a major functional area like any other functional areas such as
finance, production, marketing, and human resources, etc.
