Definition of syllable
 A sound unit in a word that has one vowel
sound.

Ex: Mississippi = Mis.sip.SIP.pi (4 syllables)


Definition of vowel
 Language sounds that are not impeded on
the way out of the speech path.

Ex: sheep

Definition of consonant
 Language sounds that are impeded on the
way.
 Ex: sheep
Stressed syllables
 Make the vowel sound in the stressed syllable

Conclusion
 Make the vowel sound in stressed syllables
longer, louder, and higher.
