What is LOGIC?

Logic is a branch of Philosophy, dedicated to


the study of reasoning.  The word Logic
derives from Greek  logike, means “possessed
of reason, intellectual, dialectical,
argumentative”, from logos equivalent to
“word, thought, idea, argument, account,
reason, or principle”.
Types of Logic

 Formal Logic- is what we think of as


traditional logic or philosophical logic.

 InformalLogic- is a recent discipline


which studies natural language
arguments.
Types of Logic

 Symbolic Logic- is the study of symbolic


abstractions that capture the formal features of
logical inference.

 Mathematical Logic- Both the application of


the techniques of formal logic to mathematics
and mathematical reasoning, and, conversely,
the application of mathematical techniques to
the representation and analysis of formal logic.
