What is Drugs ?

Drugs is any substance (with the exception of food and water)


which, when taken into the body, alters the body function either
physically and physiologically. Drugs may be legal or illegal.
A drug is a chemical which is given to people in order to treat or
prevent illness or disease. Drugs are substances that some people take
because of their pleasant effects, but which are usually illegal.
Types of Drugs
There are many types of drugs:

1. Coccaine
- this is an addictive drug derived from coca prepared synthetically used as an illegal stimulant and
medicinally as a local anesthetic.
2. Heroin
- a highly addictive analgesic drug derived from morphine, often use illicity as a narcotic producing
euphoria.
3. Morphine
- is an analgesic and narcotic drug obtain from opium and used medicinally to relieved pain.
4. Depressant
- this is an influenced that depresses economic activity.
5. Cannabis
- especially as smoked or consume as a psycho active (mild-altering) drug.

Why Do People Use Drugs?
People take drugs because they want to change about their lives. There are some many
reasons young people have given for taking drug. They think drugs are a solution, but eventually
the drug becomes the problem. Difficult as it may be to face one’s problems, the consequences
of drugs use are always worse that the problem one is trying to solve with them. The real
answer is to get the facts and not to take drugs in the first place. And some people say:

• To fit in
• To escape or relax
• To relieve boredom
• To seem grown up
• To rebel
• To experiment
Signs and Symptoms that can be
seen if a person is using drugs
A. Attitude, Character, Behavior
• Difficulties at school, disinterest in school-related activities, and declining
grades
• Poor work performance, being chronically late to work, appearing tired and
disinterested in work duties, and receiving poor performance reviews.
• Altered behavior, such as an increased desire for privacy.
• Drastic changes in relationships.
• Issues with financial management, such as not paying bills on time.
• Defensiveness when asked about substance use.
• B. Physical Symptoms
• Wearing inappropriate or dirty clothing and a lack of interest in
grooming.
• Changes in appetite, such as decreased appetite and associated
weight loss.
• Bloodshot eyes, poor skin tone, and appearing tired or run down.
E. Prevention on the use of Drugs
* Increasing taxes on tobacco and alcohol products to reduce use
particularly among young people. Reducing the availability of excess
prescription medication. Restricting advertising od addictive substances
particularly to young people.
