Dorothea Elizabeth Orem was born
in 1914 in Baltimore, Maryland.

According to Orem, nursing care is

done with the belief that everyone has
the ability to care for themselves so as
to help individuals meet the needs of
life, maintain their health and well-
being

therefore this theory is known as Self

Care or Self Care Deficit Theory.
