USE OF DID
We use the auxiliary did :
To ask questions in past tense
For example:
Did people fly planes a hundred years ago?
Did you live in this city 20 years ago?
Did Helen get married 5 years ago?
Other use of did
We also use did to make negative sentences:
For example:
People did not (didn´t) use internet a hundred years
ago.
David didn´t leave home yesterday.
I didn´t go jogging last week.
WH/ QUESTIONS
WITH
DID
We can use DID to ask for information .
For example:
When did you arrive home last night?
Where did you go last month?
Why did you travel to Europe?
Who did you travel with?
What did you do this morning?
USE OF AUXILIARY DID IN
AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES
We use did in affirmative sentences to give short
answers and not mention the verb of the question.
For example:
Did people drive a hundred years ago?
Yes, I think they did.
In this answer did replace drive.
