USING PREPOSITIONS

 Noun + preposition Her response to the criticism was very strong.


 Verb + preposition Laugh at, knock at, listen to, consist of, beg for, look
at, wait for, agree with, agree too, believe in, suffers from, remind of, worry
about, approve of, charge with
 Adjective + preposition I’m surprised at how fast my students are learning.
 Phrasal verb break down, catch on, come back etc
 Preposition of place at, in, on
 Preposition of time At, on, since , by ,for, in
 Phrase The book was on the table.

NOTE

 the difference between phrasal verbs and verbs with prepositions:


 The cars are made in Korea. (verb + preposition = easy to understand)
 The researcher made up some of his data. (phrasal verb = hard to understand)

PREPOSITIONS OF PLACE AND TIME

 Note the difference between ‘among’ and ‘between’:


 Among 14 students in the class, only two were from Africa. (large group)
 He divided his time between the offices in Barcelona and Madrid. (limited
number)
