Andy Warhol was an American artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual
art movement known as pop art. Warhol elevated ordinary objects by turning them into works of fine
art. Using processes borrowed from the advertising industry, like silkscreen printing, he infused
highbrow culture with lowbrow images and materials. He also explored modern celebrity through the
repetition of iconic images, which held a mirror up to society's obsessions. He concocted a bridge
between banality and opulence in a way that was easy to understand and poignant in its social
commentary. Warhol revolutionized the business world of advertising thru silk screen printing.
