PRESENTATION

IAQG 9100 SERIES TEAM

9100 CAM SUB-TEAM

The IAQG is a legally incorporated international not for profit association (INPA) with membership from the Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific Region (Rev. 08-2015)
Background
• ISO 9001 / 9100 require and
promote the improvement of
QMS processes
• However, ISO 9001 / 9100
cannot be used to measure
improvement
• In practice, once certified, many organisations tend to
have as sole objective to maintain their certification
• Despite achieving the same certificate, some companies
narrowly reach the required level of conformity for
their QMS, while others excel

IAQG 9100 Team is considering development of a
capability assessment model
based on the 9100 standard

Why?
• Go beyond 9100 compliance and effectiveness to
organizational capability
• Offer to organizations a tool to set clear targets for
improvement
• Recognition of improvement
• Enhanced motivation for improvement
• Increased level of quality of the whole aerospace industry

Intended use

• A QMS improvement model,

for both certified and non
certified organizations

• Self-assessment by the
organization
– For the entire scope of the QMS
– For specific areas of interest

What has been done Next Steps
so far?
• Evaluated options • Survey via OASIS
• Agreed basic approach • Results Analysis
• Developed prototype • Decision on action plan
• Evaluated experience
from prototype
• Discussed way forward

Consistency with other IAQG initiatives
• The intended 9100 CAM is complementary with the existing
Supplier Selection and Capability Assessment (SSCA) within
the Supplier Chain Management Handbook (SCMH)
– 9100-based model for QMS assessment and improvement
– SCMH model more product and process oriented
• The 9100 assessment model by no means should be
interpreted as a ‘replacement’ or competitor of certification
audit
– Assessment of capability: a tool to measure and promote improvement
– Certification audit: to evaluate the effectiveness of the QMS and its
compliance to the 9100 standard

Tasks to completion

• Overview of the tasks to complete the work:

– Complete the assessment model
– Create tool(s) for performing the assessment: calculation
algorithms; assessment report
– Validate the assessment model and tools by appropriate
trials
– Create assessment procedure and guide
– Define assessor competence requirements

• The outcome of the survey will be a crucial input to

the decision of future activities
