WHAT IS BIOFUEL

• Biofuels are liquid fuels that have been

developed from other materials such as
plants or animal waste matter.
CLASSIFIATION OF BIOFUELS
1st Generation Biofuels
Also called conventional biofuels . It includes sugar, starch, or vegetable oil.

2nd Generation Biofuels

Known as advanced biofuels and can be manufactured from different biomass.

3rd Generation Biofuels

Extract from algae mostly marine algae.
COMMON TYPES OF BIOFUELS
 BIOETHANOL
 Bioethanol is produced by the fermentation of carbohydrate
rich source which includes sugarcane, sugar beet, corn etc.
 Bioethanol fermentation is mostly carried out by yeast (e.g.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae)
 It is colorless and clear liquid.
 Much more environmental friendly and low toxic.
