Post War Pakistan-

Problems
In 1947 the british Viceroy Lord Mountbatten arrives in
Delhi, to end the British raj, he announced Independence
shall be brought forward and Pakistan and India shall be
separated Partition triggered riots, mass casualties, and a
colossal wave of migration.
The Problems

● The assembly members and government officials were mostly wealthy landowners who had little political
experience, unlike India.
● The Muslim league drew most of its support from rural areas than urban areas.
● Due to lack of political experience and the geographical distance between East and West Pakistan, it was
difficult to govern the country from one particular place.
● While the majority of the population lived in the Eastern region, given that the officials lived in the
Western- led to worsened situations.
● Lack of government skills, machineries and proper administrations made it difficult to run the new
country.
● All government papers and shares were bought
from Delhi to Karachi, and from Calcutta to
Dhaka. Lack of proper office accomodations and
lodged provincial departments was the starting
of the Pakistani government.
● Minimal requirements to form a government i.e
skilled personnels, government buildings,
capital city, etc were missing.
The problems-
continuation
India inherited government buildings, furnishings and even British
officials to carry out a stable governance after partition with India,
which Pakistan didn’t have.

Britain was reluctant to use their troop and aid Pakistan in

maintaining law and order on the borders.

Muslim leaders assumed Pakistan will have a sizeable poppulation of

non muslims which would safeguard the muslims remaining in India.
However, Pakistan ended up having a homogeneous population.
Which led to political unrest in India.

And even though Pakistan was ostensibly created as a

“homeland” for India’s Muslim minority, not all Muslims
even supported its formation, never mind migrated there.
Conclusion
To this date, the two countries’
relationship is far from healthy. both
countries have nuclear power. Indian
Muslims are frequently suspected of
harbouring loyalties towards Pakistan;
non-Muslim minorities in Pakistan are
increasingly vulnerable. Seven
decades on, well over a billion people
still live in the shadow of Partition.
