What is a computer?

Computer is an advanced electronic device that takes raw data as an

input from the user and processes it under the control of a set of
instructions called program, produces a result output, and saves it for
future use.

• Computers in every form have become an important part of our

daily lives.

• Computers have been in use since the abacus approximately 5000

years ago.

• The first full-sized digital computer in history was developed in

1944.
First Generation Computers

The first generation of computers took

place from 1940 to 1956 and was very large
in size.

It was the vacuum tubes that were

primarily responsible for the huge size of
the devices and the large amount of heat
generated.

First generation computers have also used a

very basic programming language.
computers took up entire rooms In the 1940s & they used
to call them "mathematical robots."
 Second Generation
Computers

The second generation (from 1956 to 1963)

of computers managed to remove vacuum
tubes instead of transistors.

They also were significantly faster than

their predecessors.

Transistor computers also developed core

memory. 
computers were strictly used for scientific and engineering research in the 1950s and
they were Represented as a "helpful assistant" for mathematicians.
Everything changed In the 1960s when the Programma 101 became the
first desktop computer sold
 Third Generation
Computers

From 1964 to 1971 computers went

through a significant change in terms of
speed

The computers of third generation used

Integrated Circuits (ICs) in place of
transistors.

This development made computers smaller

in size, reliable, and efficient
This computer was created in the 70’s and could print documents and send
emails and the computer’s design, included a mouse, keyboard, and
screen.
Fourth Generation
Computers

Changes with the biggest effects happened

in the years 1971 to 2010.

Fourth generation computers became more

powerful, compact, reliable, and affordable.

All the high-level languages like C, C++,

DBASE etc., were used in this generation
  Apple's Macintosh was described as a game-changer for
the computer industry In the ‘80s.
Fifth Generation Computers

Computer users can expect even faster and

more advanced computer technology.

The fifth generation of computing has yet

to be firmly developed, as there are several
paths that technology is moving into the
future of computer development.

All the high-level languages like C and C+

+, Java, .Net etc., are used in this
generation.
In the early 2000s, laptops became Today, computers come in all shapes
increasingly popular, especially after and sizes, including tablets.
Apple launched its MacBook Air.
 Advantages of Computers
High speed
Computer is a very fast device. It is
capable of performing calculation of
very large amount of data.
Diligence
Unlike human beings, a computer is free
from tiredness, and lack of concentration.
It can work continuously without any
error and boredom.
Accuracy
Computers perform all jobs with
100% accuracy provided that the
input is correct.
Automation
Computer is an automatic machine.
Automation is the ability to perform
a given task automatically
Storage Capability
A computer has much more storage capacity
than human beings. It can store large amount
of data. It can store any type of data such as
images, videos, text, audio, etc.
Reduction in paper and
cost
reduction in paper work and results in
speeding up the process.
Disadvantages of Computers

Conclusion

In conclusion, it took a lot of people and more than

seventy years for the electronic computer to become
what you know today. What once started as a gigantic
calculator can now interact with people all over the
world. Now, we could never live without our
computers.
