WW1. Hitler joined and rose within the Nazi party Hitler • Hitler used propaganda and spoke to the frazzled people of Germany using fear tactics • In 1933 Hitler became Chancellor of Germany Hitler’s Power • After he became Chancellor, Hitler grew the Nazi force in Germany • He became an absolute dictator and spread the ideas of anti-Semitism (prejudice against Jewish people) • He believed the supreme race was Aryan and all others were nothing • He began war in 1939 when invading and taking over countries in Europe • Continued taking over countries and killing and imprisoning innocent lives • December 7, 1941 the Japanese military performed a surprise attack on the United States at the Pearl Harbor Navy base in Oahu, Hawaii. • Up until now the U.S. wanted to stay out of war Pearl Harbor • The attack triggered a sense of American pride, and the country united to fight against the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) • The attack killed 2,403 Americans Pearl Harbor • December 7, 1941 the Japanese military performed a surprise attack on the United States at the Pearl Harbor Navy base in Oahu, Hawaii. • Up until now the U.S. wanted to stay out of war • The attack triggered a sense of American pride, and the country united to fight against the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) • The attack killed 2,403 Americans The Holocaust • During WWII Hitler started a secret Holocaust that nobody completely knew about • Hitler enslaved anyone he thought was less than him. This included Jewish, disabled, homosexual, or people of other races • These people were sent to concentration camps where they were either killed or forced to work for the war cause • More than 6 million Jews were killed The End of WWII • The war ended in 1945 with a series of surrenders • Adolf Hitler committed suicide on April 30, and Germany surrendered almost a week later • In September Italy and Japan surrendered • WWII claimed the lives of 60-80 million people (about 3% of the earth’s population) Sources • Simple History.
