Nursing (Bedside) Clinic
Organized clinical instruction in the
presence of the patient.
Bedside clinic can be medical, nursing
or combined.
This is a teacher centered method
Meant for a small group of students
Pre information is required
Contd..
Prior permission should be taken from
the patient or relatives
Clinic can be conducted at the
bedside or in the nearby clinical
teaching room.
Patient selected should have typical
signs and symptoms rather than
unusual or confusing symptoms
The usual duration is 30 to 45 minutes
students have to gather around the patient in
an informal way in order to avoid tension to
him
Patient should be taken into confidence and
nothing should be done or told throughout the
clinic which may humiliate or embarrass him.
If patient’s condition permits, it is better to
motivate him to give a brief description
regarding his condition.
The learning experience is essentially
discussion with a focus on
*The total care of the patient,
*Specific nursing care,
*Observations and recorded data
and their implications, the patient
reactions, response to care and
progress.
*The medical and surgical treatment
and consequences
*Nature of nursing care
