Konoplev Nikita 9G
Who are they?
A tolkienist is someone who studies the work and
legendarium of J.R.R. Tolkien. A tolkienist can also be
described as a hard-core fan of Tolkien’s work, one
who studies the work with the same amount of
interest (or more) than others. These people also study
non-fictional subjects. Tolkienists can study Elvish
languages.
How did it all begin?
This style appeared in
1960 in the USA. From
the very beginning
thousands of people have
supported this idea and
become the fans of
Tolkien’s fairy world. You
can easily notice this
people because of their
strange fairy look and
unusual costumes.
What clothes do they wear?
Tolkienists wear unusual
clothes. They want to look
like elves, orks, hobbits
and other Tolkien’s
characters. Some of these
people have lost any
connection with a real
world. They try to imitate
not only clothes, but
movements, manners and
habits of their favorite
characters.
Legolas
In this picture you can see one
of Tolkien’s characters. His
name is Legolas. He is
Sindarin Elf of the Woodland
Realm and one of nine
members of the Fellowship of
the Ring. This person is
wearing a black mantle, black
tight trousers with a dark
green jacket. He is also
wearing black boots . This
man is holding a bow and a
quiver with arrows.
What music do they like?
Tolkienists prefer ethnic melodies and songs about the
world of fantasy. The majority of them also adopt
musical style “Power metal”.
How do they spend thier free time?
Tolkienists are fond of literature. They like not only
reading but creating their own stories. They like
sharing their works in the Internet and discuss the
works of other people with the same hobby.
Role plays
Role plays are the most
exciting way of spending
free time for tolkienists.
They prepare for them
for a long time. They
create costumes, scenery
and invite guests. After
role plays they enjoy
picnics and camping in
the countryside.
Some costumes are very
expensive and demand
long hours of work.
Tolkienists even try to
find common language
with animals like
Tolkien’s characters.
