Course Description
This is a study of the various types
and methods of research. It focuses on the
research process that includes problem
identification and definition, formulation of
theoretical and conceptual framework,
objectives and hypotheses, identification of
study variables, selection of appropriate
research designs, sampling, data collection,
data processing, data analysis and
interpretation and report writing.
Intended learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the


students should be able to:
1. demonstrate understanding of
what research is all about;
2. explain the significant
contributions of research in
education;
3. define the terms used in research ;
4. explain the different
methods of research;
5. identify the different parts
of research; and,
6. prepare a research proposal.
What is research
= Re + Search
Search – means to look for
something

problem, using demonstrable
facts which are gathered,
presented, analyzed, and
interpreted.

unknown but it is necessary to find
out the causes of the problem in
order to institute corrective action.

- statistics, raw or unorganized/unprocessed
individual facts.
